SYDNEY ROSE
The artist turning pages and turning heads.
Sydney Rose broke out into the music world by recording covers of popular songs and sharing them on YouTube and TikTok. The Georgia native quickly took off, gaining a devoted online audience. In the disconnected digital world where Rose received her fame, she sings of intentional emotions. Her cover of Sleeping at Last’s "Turning Page" currently has over 61 million streams on Spotify alone.

Her covers are undeniably powerful, charged with the emotional urgency of a twenty-something in the midst of growing up and moving away from familiarity. She carries this same quiet intensity into her solo music.

Her debut album, One Sided was met with online success when it was released last fall. The tracks are stripped back, reminiscent of the covers that garnered her initial popularity. Within her simple musicality and honest lyrics lies the core truth of being young: growing up is painful.

Her ballads hold the emotional breadth and charge of being young. Rose’s music serves as a liminal space between familiarity and growing up, heartbreak and hope.

Now living in Nashville, Rose is parting with her new home and embarking on a multi-city tour. We were able to catch Rose’s June 19 show at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn.

Rose puts on a concert with just as much tenderness as her albums. From playing originals like her popular “You’d Be the Stars,” to a crowd selected cover of "Waiting Room" by Phoebe Bridgers. With each song, Rose drew each audience member a little closer together. I think part of Rose’s charm as an artist is her ability to search the depths of her heart. She gathers up her truths and stitches them into simple melodies.
